First
A Taste of Lobster Bisque
Pinot Gris 2006
Duck Pond Cellars
Willamette Valley, OR
88 points WE 'Best Buy'
The resulting wine has a nose of peach, vanilla and lime. The fruit quality is reflected in the wine's opulent mouth feel and gorgeous fresh-fruit palate.
Second
Beef Carpaccio
Chianti 2004
D.O.C, Villa Chigi Saracini, Tuscany, Italy
92 points WS
A blend of 80% of Sangiovese and 20 % Canaiolo. Well balance of tanning and minerals. A medium-body and dried wine that can taste and smell fruit tones with a little bit earthy.
Third
Addison Baby Crab Cakes with Sauce Rémoulade
Ahi Tuna Tartare with Mango – Wasabi Soy Sauce
Chardonnay 2007
Thorn Tree, South Africa
90 points WE 'Best Buy'
A light style and easy to drink with intense citrus fragrance , ripe peach and pear flavours and fresh buttery finish. A wine with a little more zip and fantastic balance.
Fourth
Snapper Francaise with a Lemon White Wine Sauce
Sauvignon Blanc 2006
Di Stefano, Columbia Valley, WA
91 points WE
An expressive Sauvignon that combines the intense citrus and tropical aromas of grapefruit and passion fruit with its rich character and structure typical on this grape.
Fifth
Marinated American Kobe Beef with Chanterelle Buerre Rouge
Blend 2005
Chatter Creek 105, WA
90 points WS
A blend of Merlot 39.6%, Cabernet Sauvignon 35.8%, Malbec 7.2%, Cabernet Franc 12.4%, and Petit Verdot 5%
This wine sparkles with bright, ruby color. Ripe and forward, a blend of violets, cassis, and black cherry, jump from the nose. Good acid on the attack of this wine carries through the lead pencil and quartz notes, warming to plumy cherry and blueberry fruit. The finish continues the interplay of the fruit and terroir, framed in by notes of toasted almonds and vanilla bean. A wine that boats of tremendous balance and attentive winemaking.
Sixth
Tiramisu / Crème Brulee
Saint John NV
(bend of Semillon 90% and Sauvignon Blanc 10%)
Di Stefano, WA
This is a classic Sauterne wine with a backbone of acid, lush mouth of honey and apricot, and sweet on the finish. The viscosity of the wine is very reminiscent of a fine Sauterne wine, one of the profiles we were trying to attain in making this wine. |
